Matthew Fries Trio
Pianist Matthew Fries, highly regarded in the jazz world as both a soloist and an accompanist, leads a special trio for an evening of traditional jazz with a contemporary edge. …With John Hébert on bass and Keith Hall on drums, viewers will thoroughly enjoy watching three jazz masters collaborating for one great performance.
MATTHEW FRIES
Matthew Fries is a classically-trained pianist who caught the “jazz bug” after a college jazz history course awakened his interest in jazz piano. He lived in New York City for almost 25 years, performing with many of the great jazz musicians. Mr. Fries tours frequently with his collaborative jazz trio, TRI-FI, often adding singer Curtis Stigers to the lineup. He has recorded five CDs with TRI-FI, and his debut album, Song for Today (TCB Music), was named a 2001 critics pick by Jazziz magazine.
JOHN HÉBERT
Bassist John Hébert was born in New Orleans, where he graduated from Loyola University. After two years of performing with many of New Orleans’ greatest musicians at various clubs and festivals, he moved to the New York tri-state area. Mr. Hébert has worked with acclaimed artists such as Andrew Hill, Lee Konitz, Paul Bley, John Abercrombie, Kenny Wheeler, Fred Hersch, and more. He has recorded extensively and has received ongoing critical acclaim in DownBeat.
KEITH HALL
Keith Hall has established himself as a passionate educator and joyful performer. For 12 years, Mr. Hall spent much of his time touring worldwide and recording with singer and Concord Recording Artist Curtis Stigers. He has also performed with the likes of Randy Brecker, Betty Carter, Wycliffe Gordon, Wynton Marsalis, and many more. Mr. Hall has recorded multiple CDs and continues to tour and record with the collaborative jazz trio, TRI-FI.[+] Show More
