In the Studio with Phil Palombi

I’m currently at the beautiful Clubhouse recording studio in Rhinebeck, NY recording with bassist Phil Palombi. It is an album of his original music and the session has been a fantastic creative experience. I’m working with Phil, Keith Hall (drummer with my TRI-FI trio) and Tony Romano (guitar) – and the recording has been a fantastic process of exploration of harmonies, sounds and textures. We’re working with the engineer, George Petit – who is capturing some gorgeous sounds. I’m playing the studio’s wonderful Steinway B, my own Vintage Vibe electric piano, and a few other keyboards.

Can’t wait for the finished product!

Solo Piano Recording and Art Collaboration

Recording on the big Steinway at One Soul StudioI spent a few afternoons in One Soul Studio this week recording a set of original solo-piano music. It’s a collaboration with my sister, Loryn Spangler-Jones. Loryn is a visual artist and we decided to create a body of work by drawing inspiration from each others’ work – I created music inspired by new pieces of her art, and she is creating art inspired by pieces of my new music. Together we’ll have a new body of work that is somehow connected. It’s been a really exciting, fun and challenging collaboration!

Look for a recording to be released later this year! Stay tuned…

House Concert in Munich

Big fun on a big Steinway at a house concert in Munich, Germany. What was a free night in my schedule on my tour with Curtis Stigers turned into a wonderful way to bring together friends for an intimate concert of solo-piano music and some great conversation. Thanks for the party!

Jazzwise Magazine Review of Show with Curtis Stigers at Ronnie Scott’s

Curtis at Ronnie ScottsOur shows with Curtis Stigers got a lovely review in Jazzwise Magazine from writer, Gemma Boyd, this week. Check it out…

At the pulsating core of Ronnie Scott’s stood a slick Curtis Stigers, intoning his moving tribute to American jazz pianist, Gene Harris, entitled ‘Swingin’ Down at Tenth & Main’: the packed crowd behind rows of beacon-like red lamps were his wings, tipped with the photographed presence of others of jazz’s glitterati who have graced this stage…
